Bienvenidos Amigos
Amigos, the Spanish Parent Association, is happy to welcome everyone back to school! On August 22, our first meeting was held with attendance from an enthusiastic group of parents. Among the topics discussed were the wonderful opportunities that the Association offers to continue supporting the cultural exchange and enrichment of our Spanish programs at AIS.
To enhance our cultural exposure, there are several projects Amigos is working on. One of the most popular ones is the Flamenco lessons offered by Julie Galle Baggenstoss. An adult group is in the making, so if dancing is your interest, go to www.flamencoclasses.com/ais. There are still a few spots available for the 1st-4th graders’ class on Wednesdays.
Also for the first time we will be working with the German Parent Association and Ensemble to participate in the Movie of the Month program. Anyone interested in taking part in this fun and easy project, please contact Alejandra Dent at albertowdent@bellsouth.net.
In language support, we have contacted a Spanish lessons school close to AIS offering a wide variety of schedules to accommodate the various needs of our community. For more details, please contact AIS parent Ruth Rieker via e-mail at ruth@softlinc.com.
Some new parents have come up with fresh ideas to promote both cultural and language exchange through our own school network. One is the pot luck dinner program, where families will get a chance to meet new friends, share delicious meals and expose their families to a culturally rich evening at home. The other is the Babysitting Club currently under way for all language tracks. Upper School students will have an opportunity to offer their services in the target language to Primary School families for a rewarding opportunity for both.
