MealPay Plus
“Declining Balances” Option
A presentation of the new Meal Pay Plan was given. There is a charge of 4.75% for all cash put on the card, but no charge to view what is purchased on the card. Multiple children can be placed on the same account. School policy is that the account is not allowed to fall below zero. If a child does not have supplemental funds when the account falls to zero, “we have a tuna fish sandwich program” so that the child does not go hungry. They will add a spending limit upgrade so that children cannot overspend. Children can use cash if they prefer; this option just provides a more secure way for the child to manage his/her funds. Even if the child uses cash, the MealPay Plus program still provides information on what the child has purchased in terms of category, i.e., “entrée”, “snack”.
Parents can still sign up for the meal program which often comes out to be less expensive than purchasing a la carte. Parents who already registered for this program at reenrollment time can continue with the meal plan and use the MealPay Plus program for ancillary food purchases. Parents can also switch from the meal program to the declining balance program completely, or opt out of the meal program at any time with a refund for unused meals.
Average price per plan, includes morning snack and lunch:
· $7.33 per day with meal plan.
· $8.00 per day purchasing a la carte
Information about this program is expected to be distributed to the parents next week.
School Services mentioned that they have been incorporating more international foods into the menu. Choice A, the hot meal, will offer the international option. Choice B is always vegetarian.
